 The Unreality of Reality

Through The Unreality of Reality,  My intention was to use photography as a way to connect with my spirituality in order to understand the notion of reality and the meaning of existence.

The theme of time interests me because of its connection with mortality.

I started exploring this concept by creating a video based on a poem by Jaime Sabines. From my perspective, the poem reflects on the way we perceive time by contemplating nature, and how we can only rely upon it to comfort us in our existential search.

Moreover, I looked at Einstein’s theory of relativity, which suggests that the flow of time is an illusion, and all moments in spacetime are equally real. In other words, the past is not gone and the future already happened and it is only our shift of consciousness that makes us perceive time as flowing.

Since photography captures a moment in time, I decided to blend several photographs into a single image to combine different points in spacetime and therefore, create timeless images that depict this wholeness mentioned in Einstein's theory, and especially refer to its philosophical interpretations.

Also, I looked into ancient cultures and several spiritual beliefs that share this concept and used my photographs as metaphors of elements found in Mysticism, Metaphysics and The Occult.

For example, I photographed portals to symbolize passages that connect universes, lives and spiritual dimensions. Overall, by observing the connections I've made relying on my intuition and sensitivity during my creative process, and the similarities I've found between concepts, I hope to understand a higher truth. Therefore, use art as a form of meditation, by visualizing a space where metaphors, shapes, and signs interconnect and originate meaning from a subconscious level. Consequently, using art as a tool to awaken consciousness.
